Infinity Stones | Powers and Locations

Apr 20 2018

If you have watched any of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, you are probably familiar with the Infinity Stones. These mysterious stones have been actively sought out by villains over the past decade and on April 27th, Thanos will take his search to earth. In preparation for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War hitting theaters on April 27th, we have created a guide for the Infinity Stones of the MCU.

What are the Infinity Stones?

While we have seen isolated appearances of the Infinity Stones over the past 18 MCU films, it is in Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy where we get the history of the stones from the Collector.

“Before Creation itself, there were six singularities. Then the universe exploded into existence and the remnants of these systems were formed into concentrated ingots, The Infinity Stones” – The Collector

The Collector also explains that the Infinity Stones can only be wielded by powerful beings and in the past, they were used to destroy entire civilizations. The Infinity Stones have since been scattered across the universe.

The Space Stone (The Tesseract)

The Tesseract

The Tesseract, as we have seen in Marvel Studios’ Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Avengers, has the ability to create wormholes enabling long distance travel. Loki uses the Tesseract in Marvel Studios’ Avengers to open a portal above New York City that unleashes the Chitauri. After the invasion is stopped, the Tesseract is locked up in Odin’s vault in Asgard for safekeeping.

The Mind Stone (Vision)

The Mind Stone has the ability to control and manipulate minds. Loki uses the Mind Stone in Marvel Studios’ Avengers to control Dr. Erik Selvig and Hawkeye. During the mid-credits scene in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Hydra gained control of the stone, which they used to conduct human experiments that resulted in Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Currently the Mind Stone is located in Vision’s head.

The Reality Stone (The Aether)

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: The Dark World, we were introduced to an ominous red liquid known as the Aether, which is later revealed to be the Reality Stone. The Reality Stone has the power to reshape the universe. The Leader of the Dark Elves, Malekith, sought to use the Aether to return the Universe to a state preceding the Universe’ expansion. While understanding the power of the Infinity Stones, the Asgardians knew it was unwise to keep two stones in Asgard. Therefore they entrusted the Aether to the Collector.

The Power Stone

The Power Stone contains immense raw power and has previously been used to destroy entire planets. In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy, Ronan the Accuser sought the stones power to destroy Xandar, only to be stopped by the Guardians. In the end Peter Quill (being part celestial) was able to use the Power Stone to destroy Ronan. The stone was then left with the Nova Corps where it still remains.

The Time Stone (The Eye of Agomotto)

The Time Stone, as you may have guessed, has the ability to manipulate time. In Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange, it is used to create a time loop to destroy Dormammu. The Time Stone is currently with the Masters of the Mystic Arts.

The Soul Stone

The sixth and final stone is believed to be the Soul Stone. The location of the Soul Stone has not yet been announced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, there is a good chance we will learn more about it in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War.

What’s Next?

While you can’t visit the MCU in search of the Infinity Stones, Arctify is happy to announce that you will also be able to find the Infinity Stones on our new Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War-inspired tee for April. While this film is guaranteed to be monumental in the MCU, the team behind Arctify wanted to create a shirt for this month that would be equally as awesome. This shirt is so cool that we anticipate even the Collector will be asking for one. Make sure to follow us on social and once the shirt arrives tag us with #IAmArctify so we can hear what you think of the tee!
