The Buzz Behind The Wasp | Character Spotlight

Jun 8 2018

As you may have heard, this July the smallest hero – Ant-Man – is returning to the big screen with some help from -The Wasp. Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man and The Wasp“, takes place between the events that happened after Captain America: Civil War and before Avengers: Infinity War. Scott Lang was placed under house arrest and was trying to balance his responsibilities as a father as well as Ant-Man when Hope Van Dyne and Hank Pym present him with a new mission to bring to light secrets from their past.

In Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly plays the role of Hope Van Dyne – Hank Pym’s estranged daughter and assistant to Darren Cross. Van Dyne holds a strong sense of resentment toward her father throughout the movie for keeping her in the dark about her mother’s death and not allowing her to become the Ant-Man, however agrees to help him in stopping Darren Cross from developing the Yellowjacket.

Later in the film, a frustrated Dr. Pym reveals to Hope that her mother was the counterpart to his Ant-Man identity known as “The Wasp”. While on a mission to defuse a nuclear Russian missile, Hope’s mother had to shrink down to the Quantum Realm to be able to move through the missile’s outer shell and while successfully defusing the missile, she disappeared forever. While being worried that the same would happen to his daughter, Pym refused to allow her to become the Ant-Man and enlisted the help of Scott Lang. After Scott Lang manages to reemerge from the Quantum Realm, Pym begins to wonder if his wife may still be alive. When Lang departs at the end of Ant-Man, Pym reveals the upgraded prototype of The Wasp suit and presents it to Hope in which she eagerly replies “it’s about damn time”.
